Description
Black Forest Trifle
Ingredients
- Marinated cherries - 17.6 oz
- Chocolate Gâteau - 17.6 oz
- Sugar - 3 tablespoons
- 10% cream - 2 cups
- Cherries in Liqueur - 6 tablespoons
- Cocoa Powder - ¼ cup
- Powdered Sugar - 6 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the cherries – if using frozen berries, thaw them in a sieve beforehand to remove excess liquid.
Step 2
Heat a small skillet, add the cherries and sugar, and warm over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Remove the pot from the heat, pour in the Kirsch, and return it to the heat.
Step 4
Continue cooking over medium heat until the liquid thickens slightly, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
Step 5
Prepare the whipped cream. Whip the cream with the powdered sugar and cocoa using a mixer (add Kirsch if you prefer a stronger flavor) until stiff peaks form.
Step 6
Cut the chocolate sponge cake into 2x2 cm cubes (or tear into small pieces by hand).
Step 7
Layer the sponge cake crumbs at the bottom of a serving dish, then spoon a layer of whipped cream, followed by the cherries. Repeat until the dish is filled.
Step 8
Garnish with chocolate shavings and a cherry (you can use a cocktail cherry if fresh ones are out of season).
