Description
Cake "Poor Jew"
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 1½ cups
- Sugar - 1½ cups
- 10% cream - 10.6 oz
- Chicken Egg - 3 pieces
- Baking Powder - 3 teaspoons
- Raisins - 1.8 oz
- Pitted Wild Apricots - 1.1 oz
- Walnuts - 0.7 oz
- Poppy seed paste - 1.8 oz
- Sweetened Condensed Milk with Coffee - 1 can
- Butter - 3.5 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Soak poppy seeds, prunes, and raisins in hot water for 30 minutes.
Step 2
After the time is up, drain the poppy seeds in a sieve and squeeze them. Finely chop the prunes. Optionally, you can add honey to the poppy seed mixture.
Step 3
Toast the walnuts in the oven.
Step 4
The same recipe is used to prepare all three layers.
Step 5
Beat the egg with half a cup of sugar until smooth.
Step 6
While continuing to stir, add half a cup of sour cream.
Step 7
Mix half a cup of flour with a teaspoon of baking powder and gradually add it to the sour cream mixture. Carefully knead, breaking up any lumps.
Step 8
When the dough reaches an elastic, sour cream-like texture, add the filling. For example, walnuts with prunes, or raisins, or poppy seeds.
Step 9
Grease a round, wide, and shallow baking pan and pour the batter into it.
Step 10
Each layer is baked separately in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 20-30 minutes. Check readiness with a toothpick.
Step 11
Once all layers are prepared, let them cool.
Step 12
To make the cream, melt the butter in a water bath and combine it with the condensed milk. Whip until smooth.
Step 13
Layer the three cakes, generously spreading cream between each.
Step 14
Spread the remaining cream on the top and sides. Decorate with nuts, chocolate crumbs, or any other ingredients.
Step 15
Let it soak in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours.
