Description
Cake with Chocolate-Sour Cream Frosting
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
- Baking Powder - 0.4 oz
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Butter - 7.9 oz
- Activated Baking Soda - 1½ teaspoons
- Farm fresh eggs - 4 pieces
- Buttermilk - 16 fl oz
- Sour Cream - 2 cans
- Bittersweet Chocolate - 10.6 oz
- Vanilla extract - 0.4 teaspoons
- Sugar - 3 tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 356°F. Prepare 2 cake pans (or you can use one and bake in batches).
Step 2
Sift the flour, then add baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3
In a large bowl, use a mixer to beat the butter and sugar, then add the vanilla extract. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Reduce the mixer speed and add the buttermilk (the mixture may look curdled).
Step 4
Gradually add the flour, mixing well after each addition.
Step 5
Grease the cake pan with butter and pour in half of the batter.
Step 6
Bake until golden brown, about 35–40 minutes. Allow to cool.
Step 7
Repeat with the remaining batter.
Step 8
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler and mix with the sour cream (the sour cream should be at room temperature; otherwise, the chocolate will harden in clumps). Add the vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Whip thoroughly.
Step 9
Place the first layer on a plate and spread with frosting, then add the second layer on top and frost it as well. Decorate the cake with sprinkles.
