Description
Challah with Sesame
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 2 lbs
- Chocolate eggs - 4 pieces
- Vegetable Oil - ½ cup
- Dry yeast - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 2 cups
- Salt - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Toasted Sesame - 0.7 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in a glass of warm water, and wait for about 10–15 minutes until it forms a 'foam'.
Step 2
Sift the flour, add salt, the risen yeast, eggs (except one), and oil. Mix everything together, gradually adding water, as you may need a little more or less. The dough should be similar to that for pastries, not too thick and not too runny.
Step 3
Knead the dough well. Place it in a warm place to rise (it’s better if the dough rises twice, then it will be softer).
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 356°F.
Step 5
Form the dough into balls (the number of balls should be a multiple of 3). Roll each ball into a 'snake' and braid three pieces together. Place the braids on a baking sheet.
Step 6
Beat the remaining egg slightly and brush it over the challah. Sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top.
Step 7
Bake until golden brown (20–30 minutes).
