Description
Chocolate Spiderweb Cake
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 2 cups
- Salt - ½ teaspoon
- Activated Baking Soda - 1¼ teaspoons
- Cocoa Powder - ¾ cup
- Milk - ½ cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Butter - 17.6 oz
- Brown Sugar - 1¼ cups
- Sugar - 2¼ cups
- Farm fresh eggs - 4 pieces
- Chocolate - 1 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Egg white - 3 pieces
- Instant coffee - 1½ tablespoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 356°F. Grease the cake pan with butter and line it with parchment paper, lightly dust with flour.
Step 2
Mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Step 3
In another bowl, mix very hot water and cocoa until smooth, then stir in the milk and vanilla.
Step 4
Beat the softened butter with brown sugar and ¾ cup of white sugar using a mixer for about 3 minutes, gradually adding the eggs one at a time. Reduce the mixer speed and alternately add a little of the flour mixture, then cocoa, then flour again, cocoa, and so on.
Step 5
Pour part of the batter into the pan and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Cool for about 20 minutes. Bake the remaining layers in the same way.
Step 6
Cut a circle from the parchment the size of the cake layers. Draw a spiderweb and a small spider next to it.
Step 7
Melt the chocolate in a water bath and let it cool slightly. Transfer to a piping bag and carefully draw the spiderweb and spider along the lines of the drawing. Let it set for about 1 hour.
Step 8
In a heatproof bowl, combine the egg whites, 1½ cups of sugar, 6 tablespoons of water, and instant coffee. Place in a pot of boiling water and beat with a mixer on low speed until the mixture is warm and the sugar dissolves. Then beat on high speed for 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat and beat for another 5-10 minutes.
Step 9
Place 1 layer on a serving plate and spread with frosting, then cover with the next layer and spread again. Repeat this with all layers to form the cake. Frost the top and sides as well.
Step 10
Carefully peel the spiderweb off the parchment and place it on top of the cake. Place the spider next to or on the spiderweb. Let it sit at room temperature until the chocolate spiderweb softens.
