Description
Colomba
Ingredients
- Milk - 1 cup
- Chocolate eggs - 5 pieces
- Salt - a pinch
- Sugar - 6 oz
- Citrus Zest Mix - 1 tablespoon
- Wheat Flour - 19.4 oz
- Dry yeast - 0.4 oz
- Candied fruits - 5.3 oz
- Butter - 10.6 oz
- Peeled chestnuts - 1.8 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Dissolve the yeast in 2–3 tablespoons of warm water. Add 100 g of flour and knead the dough. Shape the dough into a ball and make a deep cross-shaped cut on top. Place it in a bowl, pour in 1 cup of warm water, cover, and let it sit in a warm place for 1 hour.
Step 2
Sift the remaining flour with salt, add sugar, crushed lemon zest, 4 eggs, and softened butter. Place in a bowl.
Step 3
Pour in the milk. Knead everything thoroughly. Dust the dough with flour, cover, and let it sit in a warm place for another hour.
Step 4
Chop the candied fruits into small pieces and add them to the risen dough. Mix so that the candied fruits are evenly distributed throughout the dough. Cover and let it sit for another hour.
Step 5
Grease a mold (usually cross-shaped) with butter and place the dough in it, allowing it to rest for another 15 minutes. Brush the top with lightly beaten egg and arrange the peeled almonds on top.
Step 6
Preheat the oven to 392°F (392 degrees Fahrenheit), bake for 40 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 356°F (356 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake for another 30 minutes. If the top begins to burn, cover it with foil.
