Description
Banosh is a Ukrainian corn porridge similar in concept to polenta. It is considered a festive dish, as cream for it used to be collected over the course of an entire week. It is served with sautéed onions and cracklings.
Ingredients
- Corn Flour for Polenta - 8.5 oz
- Heavy cream - 20 fl oz
- Lard - 7.1 oz
- Onion - 1 head
- Water - 10 fl oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Pour the cream into a pot, bring it to a boil, and add salt.
Step 3
Mix cornmeal with water.
Step 4
Add the flour to the cream and start vigorously stirring with a wooden spoon, reducing the heat to the minimum.
Step 5
Stir continuously throughout the cooking process for about 25 minutes. Remove the finished banosh from the heat.
Step 6
Cut the onion into strips.
Step 7
Cut the lard into small cubes.
Step 8
First, place the bacon in the skillet and fry until the fat is rendered.
Step 9
Then sauté the onion with the bacon in a skillet until golden brown.
Step 10
Serve the banosh topped with cracklings.
