Description
Date Cake
Ingredients
- Pitted olives - 7.1 oz
- Beans - 1 piece
- Margarine - 3.5 oz
- Wheat Flour - 2.1 oz
- Cocoa Powder - 3 tablespoons
- Baking Powder - 2 teaspoons
- Walnuts - 2.5 oz
- Bittersweet Chocolate - 5.3 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 356°F. Place the dates in a saucepan and cover them with water just enough to submerge them. Cook over medium heat until softened (about 5 minutes is usually sufficient). During this time, roughly chop the walnuts and mash the banana into a puree. Some believe that the skin of the dates should be removed. However, if the skin easily separates when pressed with a fork, it is not necessary to do so.
Step 2
Mash the dates into a puree and let cool. Add the margarine and beat until fluffy. Sift the flour and mix it with the baking powder and cocoa powder. Gradually add the flour to the date mixture, kneading into a stiff dough. Add the banana and mix well until homogeneous. If the mixture seems too dry, you can add 1–2 tablespoons of water. Add the walnuts.
Step 3
Transfer the dough to a prepared baking pan, smooth the surface with a spoon, and bake in the middle of the oven for about half an hour. Once removed from the oven, let it cool slightly, remove from the pan, and allow the cake to cool completely.
Step 4
Break the chocolate and melt it (the easiest way is to place a bowl with chocolate pieces in the cooling oven). Use a flat knife to spread the chocolate over the cake and let it set.
