Description

The origin of these Dutch doughnuts is surrounded by many legends. According to one, oliebollen were offered to appease local evil spirits, while another suggests that the recipe was brought by fleeing Jews escaping the Inquisition. Originally, the doughnuts were made without filling, but now they are filled with everything from dried fruits to meat.

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour - 14.1 oz
  • Dry yeast - 0.7 oz
  • Milk - 10 fl oz
  • Sugar - 2 spoons
  • Chicken Egg - 2 pieces
  • Raisins - 7.1 oz
  • Granny Smith apples - 1 piece
  • Vegetable Oil - 1½ l
  • Powdered Sugar - to taste

Step by Step guide

Mix the yeast with warm milk and a spoonful of sugar, then wait a few minutes until bubbles form on the surface.

Sift the flour, add salt and sugar, and mix.

Add the eggs and the milk-yeast mixture, and knead the dough with a wooden spoon for 10 minutes.

Dice the apple into small cubes.

Add raisins and apple to the dough, and mix well.

Cover the bowl with the dough with plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot for an hour.
