Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 7.9 oz
- Baking Powder - 2 teaspoons
- Salt - a pinch
- Butter - 2.6 oz
- Egg white - 1 piece
- Powdered Sugar - 1.4 oz
- Milk - 1 tablespoon
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 428°F. Sift the flour into a large bowl, add salt, baking powder, and mix. Add the butter, cut into small cubes. Then, using your fingers, mix the flour with the butter until the mixture resembles crumbs. Stir in the sugar.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, beat the egg with two tablespoons of milk. Make a well in the flour mixture and pour in the beaten egg with milk. Knead the dough — it should be soft but not sticky. Add more milk if necessary. Form the dough into a ball.
Step 3
Lightly dust the table with flour. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2.5 cm (I made small scones and rolled it a bit thinner). Cut out the scones. Re-roll the scraps of dough and cut out more scones.
Step 4
Place on a baking sheet and brush the tops with the beaten egg mixed with milk.
Step 5
Bake for 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
Step 6
Serve with butter, honey, or jam.
