Description
Fortune cookies are a traditional New Year's treat invented in the USA. Making these cookies requires skill and patience, as the desired shape can only be achieved in the first few minutes after taking them out of the oven, while the dough is still warm. It's best to write the wishes on small pieces of paper by hand using a marker or to print them on a laser printer. The size of the paper should not exceed 1.5 by 7 cm.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 1 glass
- Corn Starch - 2 spoons
- Vanilla salt - 1 tablespoon
- Egg white - 3 pieces
- Powdered Sugar - ½ glasses
- Salt - a pinch
- Vegetable Oil - 4 spoons
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Sift the flour and starch into a large bowl. In a separate container, beat the egg whites until frothy. While continuing to beat, gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla sugar to the egg whites.
Step 2
Add the butter and 3 tablespoons of cold water to the flour and starch. Incorporate the egg whites and knead the dough. It should be not too thick. Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3
Line a baking tray with parchment paper marked with circles that are 8 cm in diameter, spaced 2 cm apart. Grease the parchment with oil and use a teaspoon to place dough on each circle, spreading it evenly across the entire area.
Step 4
Bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for no more than 8 minutes.
Step 5
Remove the baking tray, and quickly take the baked rounds of dough off the parchment paper onto a work surface. Place a note with a wish in the center of each round, then fold the round in half. Next, fold it in half again, without sealing the ends. Allow to cool.
