Description
In France, this type of toast is called pain perdu ('lost bread') and is made by using stale rolls.
Ingredients
- Ghee - 1.8 oz
- Brioche - 1 piece
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Cream - 1 fl oz
- Apple - ½ pieces
- Cinnamon - to taste
- Ground Nutmeg - to taste
- Powdered Sugar - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
In clarified butter, sauté the finely chopped apple until soft, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and cook for another minute until the sugar is absorbed by the apples and the cinnamon aroma fills the air.
Step 2
Transfer the apples to a bowl. Cut the brioche in half. Lightly beat the egg with the cream and a pinch of nutmeg.
Step 3
Soak the halves of the brioche in this mixture and fry them in the same skillet where the apples were cooked, until golden brown. This will be the French toast.
Step 4
Place the sautéed apples on the toast, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and if you're a fan of delightful aromas, add some cinnamon as well.
