Fried Cheese Sticks
Ingredients
- Milk - 8 fl oz
- Water - 8 fl oz
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Activated Baking Soda - 1 teaspoon
- Wheat Flour - to taste
- Hard Cheese - 7.1 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Pour cold milk into a bowl, add warm boiled water, salt (you can add a heaping teaspoon if you want the sticks to be salty, for example, to make a snack for beer), and baking soda. Then gradually add flour. Knead the dough.
Step 2
Add finely grated cheese to the prepared dough; the more cheese, the cheesier the sticks will be.
Step 3
Knead for at least 10 minutes. Then let the dough rest a bit. In simple terms, the gluten in the flour should swell, making the sticks softer and more elastic.
Step 4
Roll out and cut into sticks, circles, triangles, or whatever shape you desire.
Step 5
Fry in vegetable oil, like in a deep fryer, on one side. Then on the other side.
Step 6
Place the finished sticks on paper towels or just paper to drain excess oil. You can sprinkle with powdered sugar if you want them sweet for tea, or leave them as they are if you added more salt and they became a snack for beer. If you want the sticks to be softer, be sure to cover them; they will soften.
