Description
Cabbage on its own isn't as great as when it's in the company of friends: carrots, onions, and tomato paste. That's why they all came together in the filling. As in previous recipes, we've kept the ingredients simple. But if you feel like adding dill, an egg, or even some cracklings to the cabbage, don't hold back.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 23.6 oz
- Sugar - 2 spoons
- Water - 17 fl oz
- Vegetable Oil - 2 fl oz
- Dry yeast - 0.2 oz
- White Cabbage - 21.2 oz
- Onion - 10.6 oz
- Carrot - 10.6 oz
- Passata Tomato Sauce - 2 spoons
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Pour in a small amount of warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the remaining warm water, 1 teaspoon of salt, the remaining sugar, and 5 tablespoons of oil. Add the yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly.
Step 4
Gradually add the flour to the bowl, one cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Alternatively, you can use a dough mixer for this task. If the dough does not come together in a ball, add an additional 2 tablespoons of flour.
Step 5
Place the resulting dough in a bowl that has been greased with oil. Cover with plastic wrap.
Step 6
Place the dough in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours, until it doubles in size. Then, punch it down and let it rise again for another 30 minutes.
Step 7
Finely chop the onion. Grate the carrot using a coarse grater.
Step 8
Finely chop the cabbage.
Step 9
In vegetable oil, sauté the onion and carrot. After 5 minutes, add the cabbage. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 10
Add tomato paste to the vegetables. Simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes.
Step 11
Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Cover the balls with plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes.
Step 12
Roll out the balls. Place filling in the center of each one. Pinch to seal the pastries.
Step 13
Fry the pastries in a large amount of hot refined oil.
Step 14
Place the finished pastries on a paper towel to remove any excess grease.
