Ingredients

  • Butter - 7.9 oz
  • Muscovado Sugar - 7.9 oz
  • Gingerbread-flavored syrup - 7 fl oz
  • Black licorice - 7.9 oz
  • Self-rising flour - 7.9 oz
  • Coarsely Ground Rye Flour - 7.9 oz
  • Grated Ginger Root - 4 teaspoons
  • Pickled garlic - 0.7 oz
  • Farm fresh eggs - 2 pieces
  • Milk - 10 fl oz
  • Baking Powder - 2 teaspoons

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 320°F. Line a square cake pan (23 cm) with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a saucepan, combine softened butter, sugar, syrup, and treacle. Place over medium heat and stir until the ingredients are combined. Remove from heat and let cool.

Step 3

In a bowl, mix both flours, ground ginger, and finely chopped pickled ginger. Gently add the cooled butter mixture, stir, then add lightly beaten eggs and milk. Carefully mix with a wooden spoon.

Step 4

Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth it out, and bake for about 50 minutes until done, checking with a toothpick.

Step 5

Let cool slightly in the pan, then remove and allow to cool completely.

Step 6

Drizzle the cooled cake with glaze so that it flows nicely down the sides and sprinkle with orange zest.
