Description
Honey can be replaced with molasses or maple syrup.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
- Butter - 5.3 oz
- Brown Sugar - 5.3 oz
- Honey - 3 spoons
- Chicken Egg - 2 pieces
- Ground Cinnamon - to taste
- Grated Ginger Root - to taste
- Orange zest - 2 spoons
- Ground clove - a pinch
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Sift the flour and spices into a deep bowl. Cut the butter into small cubes, combine it with the zest, and vigorously rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles damp sand or bread crumbs.
Step 2
Lightly beat the sugar with the eggs, then add the liquid honey. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and knead the dough. The result should be a shiny, brownish ball. Wrap the finished dough in plastic wrap, flatten it slightly, and place it in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Working with chilled dough is easier.
Step 3
Roll out the dough on a parchment-lined surface, so your little figures won't lose their shape when transferring to the baking sheet. The finished sheet should be about 5 millimeters thick, no more.
Step 4
Cut out the cookies using cookie cutters, and remove the excess dough from the parchment paper. Transfer the parchment with the gingerbread men to a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes at 356°F, until they turn golden brown.
Step 5
Remove the little figures from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes on the baking tray. They will firm up a bit, and you can confidently transfer them to a baking basket.
Step 6
Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
