Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour - 2½ cups
  • Honey - 0 oz
  • Butter - 6 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Egg white - 1 piece
  • Baking Powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 0 oz
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Grated Ginger Root - 1 teaspoon
  • Cardamom - a pinch
  • Ground clove - 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg - a pinch

Step by Step guide

Step 1

In a saucepan, melt the butter, add honey, sugar, and spices.

Step 2

Pour the mixture into a large bowl and let it cool, then add the beaten egg and mix well.

Step 3

Sift the flour together with the baking powder and soda. Gradually add the flour mixture to the honey-egg mixture while stirring continuously. Knead well, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Step 4

Roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of a couple of mm and cut out desired shapes, placing them on a baking sheet lined with paper. Bake at 345°F for 4–5 minutes until browned. Let cool on the baking sheet.

Step 5

Decorate with icing: beaten egg white + powdered sugar + lemon juice.
