Description

On Halloween in Ireland, they bake barmbrack — a sweet yeast bread. Small items are hidden inside — twigs, peas, coins: whatever is found foretells what awaits the person. The most eagerly anticipated were the rings — signaling a wedding, and so barmbracks are still sold with little rings inside. This bread is not only good as a ritual treat but also as a sweet accompaniment to tea. It is recommended to enjoy it with butter. This baked good is very Irish: the raisins for barmbrack are soaked in black tea and whiskey, resulting in a dark, dense, and fragrant dough.
