Description
From the specified amount of ingredients, I get 17 flatbreads.
Ingredients
- Milk - 17 fl oz
- Wheat Flour - 5 cups
- Vegetable Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Butter - 7.1 oz
- Mashed Potatoes - 3 lbs
- Salt - to taste
- Onion - 1 piece
Step by Step guide
Step 1
You can prepare the filling in advance — make the mashed potatoes or do it while preparing the flatbreads.
Step 2
Everyone knows how to make mashed potatoes, but I recommend the following recipe: Peel 1.5-2 kg of potatoes, boil until tender. Drain the water. Add 150 g of butter and 200 g of sour cream. Don't forget to salt to taste. Mash and mix well. Chop and fry a large onion until golden, adding a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of sugar at the end of frying. Stir the fried onion into the mashed potatoes. You can also add your favorite chopped herbs.
Step 3
Knead the dough. First, mix 500 ml of milk, the egg, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (if you like slightly sweet dough with savory fillings, add a tablespoon of sugar). Then, gradually add flour to knead a firm dough. If it turns out too liquid, just add a little more flour.
Step 4
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
Step 5
Prepare a frying pan for frying the flatbreads (or better yet, two at once, it's much faster). Heat them on the stove. If the frying pan's coating allows, fry without oil. If not, lightly grease with vegetable oil before each frying. Fry over medium heat.
Step 6
Take the dough out of the container and knead it well, cut it into pieces (you can just tear it by hand) and shape them into balls about the size of a tangerine. (As soon as you roll one ball, you'll understand whether the amount of dough corresponds to the size of the frying pan).
Step 7
Take one ball, cover the rest to prevent them from drying out. On a floured surface, first flatten the ball with your palm, sprinkle with flour, and roll out a round flatbread to the size of your frying pan. For those who like perfect shapes, you can cut out a neat circle using a mold (for example, a lid).
Step 8
Fry the flatbread first on one side, then flip it over and brush with butter (using a brush or fork), fry until done (when it is slightly browned, the dough will change color when ready). Make sure it doesn't burn on the bottom.
Step 9
Transfer the flatbread, buttered side down, onto a plate and brush the second side with butter. Repeat with all the balls.
Step 10
Then place the filling on one half of the flatbread and cover it with the other half. Do this with all of them. Arrange them in a dish, cover with plastic wrap or a towel.
Step 11
If you can't wait, you can try one right away, but it's better to wait an hour or two, then the dough will become more tender and soft. The next day they are even tastier.
Step 12
And the last, most important and pleasant point — enjoy watching them being devoured.
