Description
A wonderful pie that we will be making all year round. Apples pair beautifully with butter, cinnamon, oats, brown sugar, and vanilla ice cream — and all of them come together here. We see this recipe as a base that can be enhanced — for example, by adding finely ground walnuts or a splash of flavored liqueur to the batter. And, of course, it's important to remember that apples come in different varieties: crisp and crunchy or soft and less juicy. We used firm green Granny Smith apples, but really, any apples will work for this recipe: the filling, when subjected to heat, butter, and lemon juice, will somewhat resemble a jam, and the firmness of the apple is not crucial.

- Apple - 14.1 oz
- Brown Sugar - 3.5 oz
- Butter - 4.4 oz
- Wheat Flour - 3.5 oz
- Oat flakes - 3.5 oz
- Salt - a pinch
- Cinnamon - to taste
- Baking Powder - 1 tablespoon
- Meyer Lemon Juice - 0 fl oz
- Vanilla Ice Cream - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 356°F.
Step 2
Peel the apples using a vegetable peeler, remove the cores, and cut them into cubes about 1 cm on each side.
Step 3
In a skillet, heat 25 grams of butter, add half of the sugar and the apples, and sauté for 3–5 minutes until the sugar has melted.
Step 4
Finally, add the cinnamon and lemon juice, and mix well. Allow the filling to cool slightly while the dough is being prepared.
Step 5
Sift both flours and the baking powder into a large bowl.
Step 6
Grate the remaining cold butter on a coarse grater, dipping it in flour to make it easier to grate and prevent it from clumping together.
Step 7
Add sugar and a pinch of salt to the butter and flour.
Step 8
Mix the contents of the bowl with your hands until it resembles crumbs.
Step 9
Spread half of the dough into the baking pan, evenly distribute it, and press it down slightly.
Step 10
Spread the apple filling over the dough, then sprinkle the remaining crumbs on top.
Step 11
Place the pie in the oven for 35–40 minutes. Allow the finished pie to cool on a wire rack.
Step 12
Serve the apple crumble pie with a scoop of ice cream.
