Meat Pies with Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- Bacon - 2 pieces
- Onion - 1 head
- Vegetable Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 1 clove
- Wheat Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Lean Beef - 17.6 oz
- English Dry Mustard - 2 teaspoons
- Ketchup - 3 tablespoons
- Worcestershire Sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Campbell's Beef Broth - 17 fl oz
- Herbes de Provence - ½ teaspoon
- Shortcrust Cake Mix - 26.5 oz
- Whole egg - 1 piece
- Passata Tomato Sauce - to taste
- Puff Pastry - 26.5 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 356°F. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet and add chopped bacon, finely chopped onion, and garlic. Sauté over medium heat for 3 minutes.
Step 2
Add the ground beef to the skillet, increase the heat, and cook for another 3 minutes until the beef is cooked through. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, broth, and herbs. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes until the liquid evaporates. Allow to cool.
Step 3
Using a square cutter, cut 8 small squares from the shortcrust pastry. Place the pastry in 8 small molds. Fill the pastry with the cooled filling. Brush the edges with lightly beaten egg yolk.
Step 4
Cut 8 squares from the puff pastry that are slightly larger than the molds. Place them on top of the molds and press the edges well. Brush the top with egg yolk. Make 2 small cuts on top with a knife. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot with tomato sauce.
