Description
A simple and delicious appetizer, a closed sandwich with cheese inside. The bread serves as the 'carriage' that snugly holds the mozzarella, and the sandwich is pan-fried on both sides. Fillings can be either sweet (cinnamon with sugar and strawberry jam) or savory. We offer a video recipe for mozzarella in carrozza, as it is made in Rome. The perfect snack to enjoy with a very cold sparkling wine like Prosecco or Franciacorta.
Ingredients
- Sourdough Bread - 4 pieces
- Melted Cheese - 5 oz
- Wheat Flour - 5 oz
- Chicken Egg - 2 pieces
- Vegetable Oil - 25 fl oz
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
- Salt - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Remove the crusts from the bread. Slice the mozzarella into pieces about one centimeter thick.
Step 2
Make sandwiches using bread and cheese, then cut them in half diagonally. Press down on the sandwiches, trying to seal the cheese inside the bread.
Step 3
Coat the sandwiches in flour, paying special attention to the cheese that is sticking out. Then, dip them into the eggs beaten with salt and pepper.
Step 4
Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
