Oatmeal with Apple, Cranberry, and Walnuts
Ingredients
- Ground Oats - 2.1 oz
- Milk - 10 fl oz
- Sugar - 3 tablespoons
- Ground Cinnamon - a pinch
- Grated Ginger Root - a pinch
- Anise Vodka - 0.1 teaspoons
- Pickled Apples - 1 piece
- Dried cranberries with sugar - ¼ cup
- Roasted Peanuts - 0.5 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
For the apple-cranberry topping, take a small sour apple, remove the core, peel it, chop it into fairly large cubes, and place them in a saucepan. Add the cranberries (if they are hard to the touch, soak them in water for a couple of hours), 2 tablespoons of sugar, anise extract, and 15 ml of water. Place over medium heat and simmer, stirring, for no more than 10 minutes until the apples are soft and translucent (but not mushy). Remove the topping from the heat, add whole walnuts, and set aside.
Step 2
For the oatmeal, combine milk, cinnamon, ginger, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a saucepan, place over medium heat, bring to a boil, add the oats, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the desired thickness is reached. Remove the oatmeal from the heat, serve in bowls, and top with the warm apple topping and a pinch of ground cinnamon.
