Description
Oatmeal with Fig and Warm Honey Sauce
Ingredients
- Hercules Oats - 2.1 oz
- 3.2% Milk - 10 fl oz
- Date honey - 1½ tablespoons
- Cinnamon - 1 piece
- Vanilla Pod - 1 piece
- Pistachios - 1 tablespoon
- Green Figs - to taste
- Dried Apricots - 0.7 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Cut the vanilla pod in half. Use the sharp edge of a knife to scrape the black vanilla seeds from the pod. The more seeds you manage to scrape out, the better.
Step 2
Pour the milk into a saucepan, add a teaspoon of honey, and place it over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, vanilla seeds, and the pod itself to the milk. Bring the milk to a boil, add the Hercules oats, and cook, stirring, for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat. Carefully extract the cinnamon stick and vanilla pod, rinse them, and dry. Cover the oatmeal with a lid and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
Step 3
For the sauce, heat a heavy-bottomed skillet, add the pine nuts, and toast them on a dry surface for 1–2 minutes. Add the previously soaked dried figs, cut into pieces; the vanilla pod, cinnamon stick, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of water. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring. Wait until the syrup boils and thickens slightly, about 3–4 minutes.
Step 4
Remove the sauce from heat and mix it into the oatmeal. Serve the oatmeal, optionally garnished with fresh figs on top.
