Description

Pie with Caramelized Apples and Pecans

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour - 2 cups
  • Sugar - ¾ cup
  • Salt - ¼ teaspoon
  • Butter - 12.7 oz
  • Orange juice concentrate - 5 tablespoons
  • Egg white - 1 piece
  • Brown Sugar - 1½ cups
  • Apple - 3 pieces
  • Farm fresh eggs - 4 pieces
  • Light Corn Syrup - ¼ cup
  • Vanilla extract - 2 teaspoons
  • Pecan - 2 cups

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Mix the flour, reserving 2 tablespoons, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 0.75 teaspoon of salt in a food processor. Add 10 tablespoons of cubed butter. Blend well. Add 4 tablespoons of orange juice, kneading well, adding more juice if necessary. Roll the dough into a ball and flatten it into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Step 2

Roll out the dough on a floured surface and transfer it to a round baking dish, pressing it lightly. Freeze for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Brush the dough with the beaten egg white.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 356°F (350 degrees Fahrenheit). Melt the remaining butter with sugar in an ovenproof dish over medium heat and bring to a boil. Stirring, let it boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Peel the apples and cut them into quarters. Arrange in the dish, rounded side down. Bake for 15 minutes, flip, and bake for another 20 minutes until soft. Transfer the apples to a paper towel and let cool slightly. Heat the syrup in a small saucepan and let cool slightly.

Step 5

Mix the remaining sugar, flour, and salt. In another bowl, place the eggs and gently mix in the syrup from the apples. Add the corn syrup, vanilla, and sugar mixture. Mix well and add the chopped pecans. Spread the filling over the dough, placing the apples on top, rounded side up, and press down slightly.

Step 6

Bake the pie for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Cover the edges with foil if they start to burn. Transfer to a plate and cool.
