Description
It's better to make your own breadcrumbs for the strudel from bread. This way, your strudel will be much tastier.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 10.9 oz
- Butter - 3.5 oz
- Water - ⅓ glasses
- Salt - a pinch
- Vegetable Oil - 1 fl oz
- Cherry - 2 lbs
- Sugar - 2.6 oz
- Breadcrumbs - 5 teaspoons
- Vanilla salt - 0.5 oz
- Ground Cinnamon - 0.9 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Sift the flour and mix it with salt. Melt the butter. Add the melted butter and vegetable oil to the flour and mix well. Gradually add hot water and knead the dough. It should be elastic, smooth, and uniform, and should not stick to your hands. Form the dough into a ball, lightly brush the top with vegetable oil, cover with a towel, and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Step 2
While the dough is rising, you can prepare the baking sheet by greasing it with oil or lining it with parchment paper.
Step 3
Roll out the risen dough into a thin layer, trying to shape it into a rectangle. You need to create a sheet with both short and long sides. The thickness of the rolled-out dough should be 2-3 mm, and there should be no tears. After rolling, carefully detach the dough from the surface it was rolled on. Then, let the dough dry slightly while you prepare the filling.
Step 4
Mix the pitted cherries, breadcrumbs, sugar, vanilla sugar or vanillin, and ground cinnamon. Lightly sprinkle the dough with vegetable oil and spread the filling on top. If the filling seems too moist, sprinkle it with more breadcrumbs. Carefully roll the dough with the filling into a log from the shorter side (the length of the short side will determine the length of the log). Transfer the log to a baking sheet and brush it with a small amount of vegetable oil.
Step 5
Bake the strudel at a temperature of 200-428°F for 15-20 minutes. You can check if the strudel is done using the traditional method with a wooden stick: pierce the strudel, and if there are no traces of dough on the stick, the strudel is ready. Once done, remove the strudel, brush it with butter, cover with a towel, and let it "rest."
Step 6
Serve hot. You can dust it with powdered sugar and top it with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
