Description
Puff Pastry Pie with Herring
Ingredients
- Fillet of Sturgeon - 17.6 oz
- Chocolate eggs - 3 pieces
- Onion - 1 head
- Milk - 7 fl oz
- Puff Pastry - 1 piece
- Potato - 1 piece
Step by Step guide
Step 1
It is better to use lightly salted herring fillet. Soak it in milk or water for 15–20 minutes beforehand.
Step 2
Boil two eggs, and one will be used to brush the pie. Slice the potato into very thin rounds.
Step 3
Remove the herring from the milk without squeezing it, and place it in a blender with the boiled eggs and the onion. Blend everything until smooth. The filling should have a consistency similar to sour cream.
Step 4
Roll out the pastry in one direction to make two sheets. Line a baking dish or tray with parchment paper.
Step 5
Place the bottom layer of pastry in the dish, leaving the necessary edges. Now, layer the potato in a single layer; this will prevent the pastry from getting soggy. It is very important that the rounds are thin; otherwise, the potato may not cook through. Then spread the filling and smooth it out with a spoon. Place the top layer of pastry, then fold the edges. You can trim any excess pastry from the edges, but if you are using non-yeast pastry, the edges will still not be thick.
Step 6
Brush the pie with egg and make a cut in the middle. Now cover it with a napkin and let it sit for a bit, while you can preheat the oven to 392°F.
Step 7
Bake for 20 minutes, but it depends on the oven; it’s best to keep an eye on it until the pie is confidently golden brown.
