Description
Recipe from our beloved nanny, Emily. Bon Appétit!!!
Ingredients
- Water - 8 fl oz
- Large eggs - 2 pieces
- Table vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - a pinch
- Granulated sugar - ½ cup
- Butter - 10.6 oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Knead the dough. Add sifted flour until the dough easily comes off your hands. Place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Step 2
Dust the table with flour. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin into a rectangle about 0.7–1 cm thick. Take 300 grams of softened butter or margarine (like 'Puff Pastry'), place it on the dough, and spread it out, leaving the edges without butter so that you can fold the margarine into an envelope.
Step 3
Fold the dough into an envelope. Roll it out and fold it into quarters. Cover with a towel or napkin and place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Roll the dough out again into a rectangle about 0.7–1 cm thick and fold it into thirds. Cover and place back in the refrigerator for 30–40 minutes.
Step 4
Roll out the dough once more and fold it into quarters again. Cover and place back in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
Step 5
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm, and cut it into diamonds. In one dish, place granulated sugar, and in another, beaten egg. Dip the top side of the twist into the egg, then into the sugar.
Step 6
It’s better to place some modern non-stick baking sheets (like 'White Cat' or 'Tupperware') on the baking tray. From experience, the twists stick to baking paper, and then you have to eat them with the paper.
Step 7
Arrange the twists on the baking tray, prick them with a fork in several places, and bake at 200–428°F for approximately 20–30 minutes until golden brown.
