Description
Red currants are sour berries, so do not try to experiment with the amount of sugar.
Ingredients
- Red Currant - 35.3 oz
- Sugar - 35.3 oz
- Water - 7 fl oz
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Take the red currants, sort them, and wash them well.
Step 2
Take a pot, place it on the heat, and pour in the water. Bring the water to a boil.
Step 3
Add the berries to the water. Stir, bring to a boil, and cook for 5 minutes on low heat so that the berries start to burst and release juice.
Step 4
Take another pot where you will cook the jam, place a sieve or colander with cheesecloth over it. Pour the resulting juice with the berries into it.
Step 5
Start mashing the berries. Completely puree them. The sieve or colander will have remnants of the berries. The pot will have the red currant juice.
Step 6
Place the pot on the heat. Add the granulated sugar. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce to low heat, stirring occasionally, and cook for 30 minutes.
Step 7
While the jam is cooking, prepare the jars and lids. Wash them well and sterilize.
Step 8
The cooking time for the jam is over. The finished jam will be liquid. Pour it into jars. Seal them with screw-on lids. Place them in a cool spot and do not touch them for a day, as the gelling and thickening process will occur. If there is little pectin in the berries, the thickening may take longer.
