Sesame Cookies "Braid"
Ingredients
- Chocolate eggs - 3 pieces
- Sugar - 3.5 oz
- Vanilla salt - to taste
- Baking Powder - 1 teaspoon
- Toasted Sesame - ½ cup
- Butter - 8.8 oz
- Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
- Powdered Sugar - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Melt the butter or margarine in a water bath.
Step 2
Whisk the eggs until frothy, then mix with the cooled butter mixture.
Step 3
Combine the sesame seeds and other dry ingredients in a bowl, then pour in the egg and butter mixture.
Step 4
Knead a soft dough. It should not stick to your hands as it will be oily enough, no more flour is needed.
Step 5
You can refrigerate the dough for about 20 minutes, but I don't do this because the dough will stick to the table a bit, requiring flour, which will make the cookies denser.
Step 6
Cut off a portion of the dough, roll it out to a thickness of 0.5 cm, cut into even strips about 5 cm wide, then cut each strip into three parts without cutting all the way through. This will create three strands to braid together. Cut the long braid into shorter pieces; they won't unravel.
Step 7
Place the braids on a baking sheet (no need to grease it). It’s a good idea to line it with parchment paper, as it will absorb the oil released during baking.
Step 8
Bake the cookies for 15–20 minutes at 374°F. Sprinkle the finished cookies with powdered sugar.
