Description

Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • Butter - 2.1 oz
  • Lean Beef - 2 lbs
  • Onion - 1 head
  • Carrot - 1 piece
  • Passata Tomato Sauce - 4.9 oz
  • Baking Tomatoes - 15 oz
  • Campbell's Beef Broth - 3 tablespoons
  • Pea shoots - 5.3 oz
  • Salad Potatoes - 3 pieces
  • Milk - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Pour a little vegetable oil into a frying pan and add about 15 grams of butter. Add the ground beef in portions and fry, stirring constantly and breaking up lumps with a wooden spoon, until the meat turns brown. Transfer the meat to a bowl and set aside.

Step 2

Finely chop the large onion and grate the carrot. Add another 15 grams of butter and a little vegetable oil to the frying pan, and sauté the onion and carrot for 3–4 minutes until golden brown. Return the meat to the frying pan. Add the tomato sauce, broth, and finely chopped canned tomatoes, and mix well. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes until the liquid evaporates and the mixture thickens. Add the peas, stir, and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the frying pan from the heat.

Step 3

Peel the potatoes, cut them into large pieces, and place them in a large pot of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cook for 5–10 minutes until soft. Drain the water, add the remaining butter and milk, and salt to taste. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 356°F. Place the meat and vegetable mixture at the bottom of a baking dish, and top with the mashed potatoes. Place the dish on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until a golden crust forms on the potatoes.
