Description
Heaven forbid you call these donuts. These are puffs. St. Petersburg puffs. They rightfully belong in our 'Golden Thousand.'
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour - 20 oz
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Dry yeast - 0 oz
- Water - 10 fl oz
- Sugar - 0 oz
- Vegetable Oil - 0 fl oz
- Salt - 0 oz
- Vegetable Oil - 0 qt
- Powdered Sugar - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Dissolve the yeast in warm water with the addition of sugar and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add the flour.
Step 4
Add the egg and oil, and knead the dough.
Step 5
Knead for about 7 minutes, then add vegetable oil and knead for another 10 minutes.
Step 6
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and place it in a warm spot for 2-3 hours. It should triple in size.
Step 7
Gently punch down the risen dough and let it rest again. Once it has risen to its original volume, roll it out and cut out dough rounds using two circular cutters of different diameters.
Step 8
Fry the doughnuts in heated vegetable oil on both sides.
Step 9
Place them on paper towels to absorb any excess fat.
Step 10
Generously sprinkle the finished pastries with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
