Description
According to legend, this dessert was created by chef Marie Antoine Carême for Emperor Nicholas I of Russia as a light conclusion to a gastronomic dinner.
Ingredients
- Strawberry - 33.5 oz
- Grand Marnier Liqueur - 2 fl oz
- Demerara Sugar - 4 fl oz
- 33% Cream - 8 fl oz
- Water - 4 fl oz
- Vanilla extract - ¼ tablespoon
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Wash the strawberries and cut them into quarters. Mix the berries with the chilled syrup and refrigerate for half an hour before serving.
Step 2
Whip the cream with 1 tablespoon of regular white sugar and vanilla extract until thickened.
Step 3
Distribute the strawberries in syrup into dessert glasses or bowls, top with whipped cream, and optionally garnish with lavender or violet flowers before serving.
Step 4
In a saucepan, mix water and sugar, place the saucepan over medium heat, and stir until the sugar dissolves. Pour the liqueur into the resulting syrup and mix. Remove from heat and refrigerate the syrup for 15 minutes.
