Description
Stroopwafels are delicious Dutch cookies made from two thin waffles filled with a warm caramel syrup. They are perfect for enjoying with coffee or tea, and can be found in many bakeries and cafes across the country.
Ingredients
- Butter - 10.6 oz
- Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
- Sugar - 5.3 oz
- Milk - 2 fl oz
- Chicken Egg - 1 piece
- Dry yeast - 1 tablespoon
- Brown Sugar - 7.1 oz
- Light Molasses - 8.8 oz
- Ground Cinnamon - 1 tablespoon
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Separate 250 g of butter and melt it. Pour the slightly cooled melted butter into a deep bowl, add flour, sugar, milk, yeast, and an egg. Knead the buttery dough.
Step 2
Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for 1–2 minutes. Shape it into a ball and place it in a bowl. Cover it with a cloth and let it rise for 40 minutes.
Step 3
Preheat the waffle maker. Take the batter and divide it into pieces about 5 cm in diameter. Bake the pieces into waffles.
Step 4
Trim the waffles using a round metal ring with sharp edges.
Step 5
In a deep non-stick skillet, melt the sugar with the molasses, then add the remaining butter and cinnamon. Heat while stirring until a caramel sauce forms. Layer the waffles with the caramel sauce.
