Description
Tamagoyaki is a traditional Japanese rolled omelet that is both sweet and savory. It is made by whisking eggs together with a pinch of sugar, soy sauce, and mirin, then cooking them in layers to create a fluffy texture. This delightful dish is often served in sushi restaurants or enjoyed as a breakfast item. In the United States, you can find it in many Japanese eateries or prepare it at home for a delicious twist on your morning routine.
Ingredients
- Chicken Egg - 4 pieces
- Carrot - 1.8 oz
- Scallions - 0.4 oz
- Daikon - 1.8 oz
- Dashi powder - 1 tablespoon
- Soy Sauce - 0 fl oz
- Mirin - 0 fl oz
- Vegetable Oil - 0 fl oz
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients.
Step 2
Grate the carrot and daikon using a fine grater.
Step 3
Slice the green onions into thin rings.
Step 4
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs with soy sauce, mirin, and dashi powder.
Step 5
Add green onions and carrots to the eggs, and season with pepper.
Step 6
Heat a skillet and grease it with vegetable oil. Using a ladle, pour a small amount of the egg mixture onto the hot skillet, allowing it to cover the bottom in a thin layer.
Step 7
As soon as the egg sets on the bottom but remains runny on top, use a spatula to lift it and roll it into a thin cylinder.
Step 8
Slide the roll to the opposite edge of the skillet and pour a little more egg mixture into the bottom, making sure it covers the surface. Gently lift the roll to allow the egg mixture to connect with the edge of the omelet. Once the bottom is set, roll the omelet back up.
Step 9
Continue to pour in the egg mixture and roll up the omelette until it is all used.
Step 10
Serve the tamagoyaki, cut into small pieces, with grated daikon.
