Description
Recipe for a 20 cm pan. 1 piece of puff pastry equals 1 sheet. 2 apples are needed if they are small; one large apple may be sufficient.
Ingredients
- Butter - 2.6 oz
- Sugar - 1.8 oz
- Lemon - ½ piece
- Puff Pastry - 1 piece
- Apple - 2 pieces
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Peel and slice the apples into thin rounds.
Step 2
In a skillet with a removable handle or a round baking dish, heat the butter over low heat, add the sugar in portions along with the juice of half a lemon, and stir constantly to prevent the sugar from burning. This will create a golden caramel mixture, into which the apple slices should be arranged in a circle with a slight overlap.
Step 3
Simmer the apples over low heat for 15–20 minutes until they become soft and golden. Watch to ensure the caramel does not burn or evaporate; if this happens, you can add a couple of tablespoons of water. Meanwhile, roll out the pastry to a thickness of about 0.5 cm, making it 2 cm larger in diameter than the pan. Cover the pan with the pastry, trim the excess, and fold the edges slightly under.
Step 4
Place in a preheated oven at 356°F for 15–20 minutes until the pastry is golden brown. Allow the finished pie to cool for a few minutes, cover the pan with a plate, and flip it over: the pie should easily come out of the pan. This dessert is delicious served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
