Description

If the pie is not served immediately after baking but allowed to rest for a day, it will taste even better. The number of servings is approximate, as the pie is very filling, and the portion size is a matter of personal preference. For those who prefer it sweeter, you can optionally add 50-70 g of regular or brown sugar.

Ingredients

  • Stale Bread - 7.1 oz
  • Milk - 17 fl oz
  • Chicken Egg - 1 piece
  • Honey - 2.8 oz
  • Lemon - ½ piece
  • Raisins - 3.5 oz
  • Ground Almonds - 1.8 oz
  • Cocoa Powder - 2 tablespoons
  • Grappa - 2 tablespoons
  • Pistachios - 0.7 oz
  • Candied fruits - to taste
  • Vanilla salt - to taste
  • Ground Nutmeg - a pinch

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Cut or tear the bread into large pieces and place it in a deep bowl. Bring the milk to a boil and pour it over the bread, then cover with a towel and let it soak.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 356°F. Take a round baking pan about 20 cm in diameter, line the bottom with parchment paper, and grease the sides with butter.

Step 3

Squeeze the juice from half a lemon and grate the zest.

Step 4

Mix the soaked bread with the milk and the remaining ingredients, except for the pine nuts, until you achieve a more or less homogeneous, sticky, thick mass of rich chocolate color.

Step 5

Evenly distribute the mixture in the pan and sprinkle the top with pine nuts, gently pressing them into the surface.

Step 6

Bake in the middle of the oven for 40-50 minutes at a temperature of 180°C.
