Description
Menemen is a Turkish egg dish with tomatoes. Unlike Israeli shakshuka, it features a minimal set of ingredients — you simply sauté tomatoes with onions and pour eggs over the vegetables.
Ingredients
- Tomatoes - 10.6 oz
- Mild Chili Spice - 2 pieces
- Onion - 1 head
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Oregano - ½ spoons
- Chili Flakes - a pinch
- Chicken Egg - 4 pieces
- Olive Oil - 1 fl oz
- Salt - to taste
- Ground Black Pepper - to taste
Step by Step guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.

Blanch the tomatoes and peel off the skin.
Step 3
Dice the tomatoes into small cubes.
Step 4
Chop the onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
Step 5
Sauté the onion in olive oil until it becomes translucent.
Step 6
Add the garlic and sauté for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.
Step 7
Then add the peppers, tomatoes, chili flakes, and oregano, season with salt to taste, and simmer over medium heat for 7–8 minutes.
Step 8
Crack the eggs into the pan with the vegetables and gently stir with a spatula to break the yolks.
Step 9
Add pepper to taste and cook for another 3 minutes.
Step 10
Serve immediately.
