Description

For the meringue, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until foamy. Add sugar and continue beating until the mixture is thick, dense, and holds its shape well. Transfer the egg white mixture into a piping bag (if you don't have a piping bag, you can use a plastic bag and cut off a corner). Carefully outline heart shapes. Place in the oven. Dry at a temperature of 100°C (212°F) for 45–50 minutes. Using the same stencil, cut out heart shapes from the cooled sponge cake. If desired, you can slice the hearts horizontally and soak them (with syrup, jam, or cream). Spread with jam. Top with a meringue heart.

  • Egg white - 1 piece
  • Jam - 3.5 oz

Step by Step guide

Step 1

For the sponge cake, beat the eggs with sugar. Add the flour and mix well. Grease the baking pan with oil or line it with parchment paper. Pour in the batter.

Step 2

Place in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F). Bake for 25–30 minutes.

Step 3

Cut out a heart-shaped stencil from paper. Use the stencil to draw hearts on the parchment paper.
