Yeast Dough Pie with Poppy Seeds

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour - 17.6 oz
  • Chicken Egg - 1 piece
  • Sugar - 4 tablespoons
  • Dry yeast - 1 tablespoon
  • Milk - 0 fl oz
  • Butter - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable Oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Poppy seed paste - 2.6 oz

Step by Step guide

Step 1

Knead the dough until it is soft, then let it rise in a warm place for half an hour. After that, punch it down and let it rise for another half hour.

Step 2

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Boil half a cup of poppy seeds in water (or milk, depending on your preference), and you can add 3 tablespoons of sugar while boiling. Then drain the water well to remove any excess liquid.

Step 3

Now that the dough is ready, divide it into two parts, which will give us two pies. Of course, you can make one large pie, but it will be quite big.

Step 4

Roll out the dough. Spread butter on it and sprinkle with three tablespoons of sugar.

Step 5

Spread the poppy seeds evenly over the surface of the dough.

Step 6

Roll the dough into a log, cut off the ends, and use them to make a central rose on the pie. Join the ends of the log into a ring and start shaping it. Make cuts with scissors every 1 centimeter, but do not cut all the way through. Leave two pieces on the outside, and turn the third piece up towards the center, continuing around in a circle. That is, the pieces we cut from the ends of the log are carefully turned out to form a rose.

Step 7

Place one piece inside (it won't be visible), and the second will be on top. This is how it should look.

Step 8

Let it sit in a warm place for a while to rise a bit more, then brush with egg yolk and place in the oven.

Step 9

Bake at 338°F for about 15–20 minutes, until the pie is a beautiful golden color.
